The pulse of WARDOGS.
The player count is read from Steam when the site is built, then shipped as a static figure. Regional populations, queues, and predictions stay blank until an official source provides them.

Why this number is a snapshot
The player count on this page is not live. It is a figure recorded at build time from the Steam Web API and compiled into the page, which means it is accurate as of the moment the site was last deployed and not a second later.
This is a consequence of how the site is built, not an oversight. WardogsHQ is a static site: there is no server running behind it to poll an API on your behalf. A browser cannot call the Steam API directly either, because Steam sends no CORS headers, so the request would be blocked before it left the page. The honest options are a build-time snapshot or nothing, and a snapshot with a visible timestamp is more useful than a spinner that never resolves.
Read concurrent players as a floor, not a population. Concurrents count people in the game at one instant. The number of people who play in a given week is much larger, and the figure swings predictably with time of day and day of week — a weekday morning trough and a weekend evening peak can differ by a factor of several without anything meaningful having changed.
For an Early Access game, the trend matters more than the level. A launch spike decaying is normal; the shape of the decay and where it settles says considerably more than any single reading, including this one.
The retrieval timestamp is shown alongside the count so you can judge how stale it is. If the collector could not reach Steam, this page says so rather than displaying a stale number as current.
