Grid-based storage with real placement rules. Every container has its own layout, every item its own footprint, and nothing is placed unless the space genuinely exists.

No backpack equipped, so this slot adds no storage.
Drag an item onto a grid to place it. Press R while dragging to rotate, double-click a placed item to rotate it, right-click to remove. Item footprints and container grid shapes are defined by this site, because the game does not publish them. See methodology.
This builder does not "approximate" the rules. It is the rules: items are rectangles, containers are grids, and an item only fits if its footprint fits into free, connected cells.
That is why a backpack with empty slots can still refuse an item. Several packs are not one compartment — they are multiple sealed pockets with blocked columns between them.
The builder models these separators exactly. If the builder says no, the game says no.
Weapons and magazines are the largest, least flexible shapes. They go in first.
Medical and utility items are small and fill whatever remains. Packing in the wrong order produces a backpack full of tiny items that cannot accept the one item you actually needed.
Where the game allows rotation, the builder allows it. Where the game does not, it does not.
This matters most for long items — often the difference between fitting in your current pack or needing the next size up.
Most equipment spending is refunded if you survive. Extraction is worth more than anything you might pick up along the way.
But a pack with no space cannot take advantage of either. Build with a gap.
Every build generates a shareable link so a squad can agree on kit before anyone spends money.
For deeper detail, the inventory guide explains the grid system, and the gear catalogue lists what each container costs.
