Where the data comes from
Facts come from Valve and OpenDota. Recommendations are ours, and say so.
From Valve
Ability descriptions, mechanics notes, cooldowns, mana costs, Aghanim's Scepter and Shard upgrades, talents, hero lore, and each hero's base attributes come from Valve's Dota 2 hero datafeed. Item costs, stat bonuses, effect text and recipes come from OpenDota's item constants, filtered against Valve's current item list. Item data was collected on 2026-10-14.
Hero, item and ability art is Valve's, copied from Valve's CDN. The large full-body hero renders load from that CDN directly.
From OpenDota
Win rates, pick rates, win rate by rank bracket, professional picks, wins and bans, head-to-head matchups, what players buy at each stage of the game, item timings, lane presence, win rate by game length and recent league games all come from OpenDota's public API. They were collected on 2026-10-14 and describe the game at that date.
Head-to-head results are only used once a pair has at least 40 recorded games; below that a single lucky streak would move the number.
Editorial recommendations
Each hero's 0–10 ratings, its trait tags (what it does to the enemy, and what it needs from items), its counters and synergies, its builds per position, its laning notes and power spikes are our own judgement. So is each item's tags: what it counters, which roles buy it, and its alternatives. Wherever these reach a page they carry a purple Our recommendation or ours marker.
The planners combine those tags with the sourced data. A matchup score, a lane difficulty, a draft's synergy score and a timing estimate are outputs of our model, not measurements. They are a starting point for a decision, and should be read that way.
What was removed, and why
The original app filled gaps in its statistics with generated numbers, carried sample patch notes to demonstrate its patch parser, and had hand-written approximations of ability text, talents and item costs. None of that is shown here. Where a sourced value is missing, the page shows a dash and says what is missing, rather than a plausible guess — a wrong number that looks right is worse than a gap, because nobody can tell it is wrong.
The patch-notes page is gone for the same reason: it ran on the sample notes, and there is not yet a sourced patch feed to replace them. The matchup planner's talent picks were removed because they were chosen from the hand-written talent list; current talents are on each hero page.
